Program Structure

Students will be given a sanitized mouthpiece (or a kit depending on the instrument) at the beginning of the year to bring to every music class and must be returned at the end of the school year. If students misplace, break or damage the mouthpiece, reed, ligature, or cap they will need to purchase the damaged part through the school cash online system.

Students are encouraged to practice their instruments as often as they can in order to become fluent at reading the notes and performing during class time. Music can be found in the 'Instrument Care' tab. Students need to complete a practice log and have it signed by a parent and/or guardian in order to keep track of their practice time. You can find practice logs in class or in the practice logs tab. Students can sign out their instruments everyday at 3:15 by using the sign out book in the forum and grabbing their instrument from the storage on the stage. If instruments are signed out they must be brought back the following day between 8:45 and 9:00am for other students to use.

End of Year Culminating Performance Task

Performance task helpful guidelines:

  • Choose a group that you know will work well and create a balanced sound for your performance

  • Choose a song you are all able to practice and perform together in a small ensemble from your essential elements book

  • You may choose a song that is not in the book but must make sure it is transposed and written in notation for all instruments in your group (If you are unable to do this without assistance you should choose a song from the book)

  • A great source to search up songs is muse score

  • Minimum number of group members is 2, maximum number of group members is 6

  • You may use a school device while practicing during class time, but not a personal device

Midpoint conference with group:

By this week your group should:

  • Have their song finalized and practiced well

  • know all the notes and rhythm of the song

  • Can somewhat perform the entire song as a small ensemble
