Project 1
Music Genre Research Project and Presentation
Due: The Month of November
Choose ONE of the following Genres:

Project Requirements:
-All presentations MUST be in either a Google Slides or PowerPoint
-You MUST include at least 4-6 pictures and 2 videos (maximum. 2 minutes long) associated with your genre. (Pictures and videos must be school appropriate).
-You MUST answer/address the following questions (please title your slide with each question to ensure that you are covering it).
-A list of website used must be included in the last slide of the presentation to cite all information.
-Presentation must be between 5-10 minutes
--Upload your assignment on your D2L when complete for feedback

How to upload your assignment on D2L
-Before logging onto D2L, save your project by changing the name of it to something you will remember
-Log into your D2L account using your office 365 e-mail and password
-Click on Assessments, then Assignment
-Click Music Project
-Click on Add a file
-If you have saved your project onto your device click on My Computer, then click upload, double click on your saved file
-If you have been working on it through your office 365 OneDrive then click OneDrive Files. If you don't see it come up on the first page, you might have to click on the little arrow above to find your powerpoint.
-Once you find it, click on it, then click Add, then Submit
-If you are still having difficulty to may e-mail it to me at dawouds@staff.hcdsb.org
Project Questions:
1. What is the name of your chosen genre?
2. When was this genre most popular (time period/dates)?
3. What are the general characteristics of this particular genre (How would I know I am listening to this)?
4. Who were the originators (created/developed) of this particular style?
5. How did it develop over time? Any changes?
6. Describe the stage setting or space where this genre would be performed.
7. How do the performers of this particular genre usually dress?
8. Name several different artists or groups who perform in this genre (at least 5).
9. What is the type of music used for? (parties, protests, dancing, expressing emotions, etc.)
10. Describe the audience who enjoys this genre (young, old, educated, conservative, etc.)
11. What is the training (education/preparation) required to be successful in this genre?
12. How is this genre like or unlike others that you have listened to before?
13. Why did you choose this genre and what makes it “good” in your opinion?
14. Who is your favorite artist or group in this genre?
15. Describe the history of your favorite artist or group (please be DETAILED).
16. Name 1-2 of your favorite songs of this group or artist and explain why you chose it.
17. Any other information that you would like to include (can be worth “extra credit points”), e.g. a poster board to visually enhance your presentation.

Project 2
Song Performance Project
Due: The Month of November
Choose one of the following options:
1. Re-creating an existing song (either on an instrument you have at home or with your voice, or both)
2. Creating your own song (On garage band, with an instrument, or with your voice.)

Project Requirements:
-Song performance must be between 2-4 minutes
-Lyrics and/or sheet music must be provided unless completed on garage band
-Song must be school appropriate
-You may bring an instrument to school (with permission) if you would like to practice your song during class time
-This is an individual assignment and cannot be completed in groups
-Upload your assignment on your D2L when complete for feedback
